Today, more children take Ritalin in Canada than eat yogurt for breakfast.

What Parents Are Saying...

Comment:
Easy target, pick on the pot. The
children prescribed the pharma pills (the anti hyper and add kind) are
in more danger ingesting that crap. hmmm, it is about the money.
To
think, the drug dealing doctors prescribing these meds and the
insurance companies paying for these meds, then the kids selling these
meds in school so their friends can catch 'a very dangerous buzz' My 17
year old told me this. It's scary to think my kid is exposed to this
threat.
Listen to the children, I have read some comments of
these kids that are forced these meds and they don't like the way they
feel on them. Evil parents to do that to your children - I say.
I
also heard that if your kid is on Ridilan you can collect social
security benefits. Case worker at the welfare office told me that. Wow
And
the pain pill problem-could not believe it when I met some folks
getting prescribed over 100 pills a month and then they sell them. Nice
profit for them since their insurance paid for the pills.
Marijuana
addictive? nope, cigarettes, oh yeah and it sucks. I think booze is
addictive too but I'm not of that mindset. Herbs are MY choice!
"Marijuana is NOT addictive - learning about it is."

6 Dangerous Drugs
METHylphenidate

Ritalin | Concerta | Adderall | ADHD drugs
Thousands of doctors still prescribe ADHD drugs to millions of children and adults every month in North America despite growing evidence that METHylphenidate is addictive, highly abused, and extremely dangerous in many instances.
5 Facts You Need to Know:
1. Instead of studying hemp, the American Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Pediatric Advisory Committee has been examining the safety of Ritalin which contains the chemical METHylphenidate since June 2005.
2. On February 9, 2006, federal science advisers to the FDA voted to recommend the country's most serious ("black box") of warning labels for Ritalin,
Concerta, Adderall and all other ADHD drugs.
3. Mounting reports of dangerous and (at times deadly) psychiatric side effects of this popular attention deficit hyperactivity disorder drug, are evidenced by expanding class action lawsuits against Novartis Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturers of Ritalin in the United States which continue to expand.
4. Side effects are now documented to include other METH-amphetamine abuse and withdrawal symptoms such as suicidal thoughts, aggression, psychotic behavior and
hallucinations. Ritalin is also now associated with cancer, and serious cardiovascular side effects
including cardiac arrhythmia, tachycardia, chest pain, hypertension, stroke, and cardiac arrest.
In one study of 12 children, scientists from the University of Texas and the
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center found a link between Ritalin and increased
risk of cancer. Each of the 12 children in the study taking Ritalin experienced a significant increase in their level of chromosome
abnormalities, occurrences which are associated with increased cancer
risk and other adverse health effects.
5. Additional side effects of Ritalin include loss of appetite, abdominal pain, sleep problems and headaches. If the drugs are taken long term, children may be smaller as a result of the appetite suppression side effect. Between 1991 and 1999, U.S. sales of Ritalin and the related drugs Concerta and Metadata CD increased more than 500 percent. Of the 29 million prescriptions written for Ritalin and other ADHD drugs in 2004, 23 million were for children. U.S. sales of Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall and other ADHD drugs increased to $3.1 billion in 2004, from $759 million in 2000. More recent and Canadian data remains unknown.
Paroxetine

Paxil | Seroxat
5 Facts You Need to Know:
1. On 9 December 2004, the European Medicines Agency's (EMEA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) informed patients, prescribers, and parents that paroxetine should not be prescribed to children. CHMP also gave a warning to prescribers recommending close monitoring of adult patients at high risk of suicidal behaviour and/or suicidal thoughts.
2. As of December 14th 2009, GlaxoSmithKline, manufacturers of Paxil, has partially settled claims filed in the United States involving suicides, birth defects, and other side effects in the amount of $1 billion. About 600 more Paxil birth defect cases remain, estimated at a total liability of $1.5 billion.
3. The company has paid about $390 million
in settlements for suicides or attempted suicides said to be linked to
the drug. About 450 suicide-related Paxil cases were settled, (150 Paxil suicide lawsuits
settled for an average of about $2 million, and about 300 over suicide
attempts settled for an average of $300,000). Additional claims remain outstanding.
4. The company also paid an average of about $50,000 per case to resolve about 3,200 claims linking Paxil to addiction problems, and $400 million to end antitrust, fraud and design claims.
5. Discontinuing paroxetine is associated with a high risk of discontinuation or withdrawal syndrome.
Psychotropics

Typical antipsychotics:
chlorpromazine (Largactil) | haloperidol (Haldol)
loxapine (Loxapac) | perphenazine (Trilafon)
Atypical antipsychotics:
clozapine (Clozaril) | olanzapine (Zyprexa)
quetiapine (Seroquel) | risperidone (Risperdal)
5 Facts You Need to Know:
1. Drug reviewers around the world are recommending regulators conduct additional studies into the effects of these drugs on children. Emerging health insurance claim studies reveal that children treated with psychotropic medications appear much more likely to experience an adverse metabolic effect than adults, and the likelihood is directly correlated with age. Documented effects include abnormal weight gain, diabetes, and increases in cholesterol and blood pressure.
2. The American FDA’s psychiatric product division director, Thomas Laughren has said that findings such as these are of particular concern in pediatric patients because of the life-long nature of these disorders. The issue of weight gain as a result of many antipsychotic medications is that extra weight can lead to serious problems including diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
3. Psychotropic drug prescriptions for children skyrocketed 250 percent between 1994 and 2001 in the United States. One study shows that by 2001, one in every ten of all office visits by teenage boys led to a prescription for a psychotropic drug. Other findings in the study show that a diagnosis of ADHD was given in about one-third of office visits during the study period. Also, between 14 and 26 percent of visits in which psychotropic medications were prescribed did not have an associated mental health diagnosis. The dramatic increase in prescribing of psychotropic medications is of considerable concern, particularly because these medications are not without risks.
4. In February 2006, West Virginia and Alaska filed lawsuits against Eli-Lilly alleging the company marketed Zyprexa for unapproved uses in those states and as a result it has cost millions of dollars to care for patients who developed diabetes and other diseases. West Virginia is seeking payment for all medical costs related to Zyprexa, in addition to the more than $70 million the state paid for the drug. The lawsuit says studies have linked Zyprexa to diabetes since 1998, and that sales representatives misled doctors about the safety and the efficacy of Zyprexa and that Lilly's advertisements deceptively understated its risks and overstated its benefits and used such misrepresentations and fraudulent conduct to gain sales of Zyprexa at the expense of other, safer and more effective drugs. To date, Eli-Lilly has agreed to pay about $1.2 billion to settle claims with roughly 26,000 litigants who alleged among other things, that the company promoted the sale of Zyprexa for off-label uses and concealed the health risks associated with the drug.
5. Additional and longer-term information on these drugs and their metabolic effects in teens and pediatric patients is urgently needed. The FDA is reviewing manufacturers Bristol-Myers Squibb, Otsuka Pharmaceutical, Johnson & Johnson, and Pfizer.
Rosiglitazone maleate

Avanida
5 Facts You Need to Know:
1. Avandia is an oral antidiabetic agent manufactured by GlaxoSminthKline which acts primarily by increasing insulin sensitivity by improving glycemic control while reducing circulating insulin levels. In November 2007, however, a "black box" warning - the American FDA's strongest safety warning - was recommended, detailing Avandia’s association with myocardial ischemia. Since the May 2007 study highlighting Avandia’s heart risks was released, thousands of people injured by the drug have filed lawsuits against Glaxo, claiming ailed to warn consumers about the risks of Avandia, including that of heart attacks.
2. The New England Journal of Medicine study said that Avandia (rosiglitazone) may lead to heart
attacks and even death from cardiovascular causes. The study came from
the Cleveland Clinic and was actually a compilation of data from 42
different rosiglitazone studies that have already taken place.
3. The conclusion reached in the Cleveland Clinic study was that rosiglitazone increased the risk of heart attack and other fatal cardiovascular events. Researchers recommend that people who take Avandia for type 2 diabetes should discuss the risks of treatment with their doctors and that doctors should seriously weigh the cardiovascular risks of treatment with rosiglitazone before prescribing it. There are many other classes of oral medications that control diabetes well that are not known to cause cardiac problems.
4. One of the concerns addressed in the study was that people with type 2 diabetes already have cardiac problems as a result of complications from their diabetes. If they are also on Avandia, their risk might be higher for fatal cardiac events.
5. The FDA's analyses of all available data are ongoing. FDA has not yet confirmed the clinical significance of the reported increased risk in the context of other studies. Pending questions include whether the other approved treatment from the same class of drugs, pioglitazone, has less, the same or greater risks. Furthermore, there is inherent risk associated with switching patients with diabetes from one treatment to another even in the absence of specific risks associated with particular treatments. For these reasons, FDA has not asked GlaxoSmithKline, the drug's manufacturer, to take any specific action. In October 2008, the group Public Citizen said it had identified 14 cases of Avandia-induced liver failure in the FDA’s Adverse Event Reporting System. Of the 14 cases, 12 resulted in death, prompting Public Citizen to file a petition with the FDA asking that Avandia be removed from the market. Scores of other court cases continue to unravel.
Metoclopramide
5 Things You Need To Know:
1. The drug Metoclopramide (also referred to by the brand name Reglan) which is prescribed to treat gastrointestinal disorders (GERD) and nausea, has been linked to the serious movement disorder tardive dyskinesia. Reglan has been prescribed not only for acid reflux, but also for women who are pregnant and experiencing morning sickness, breastfeeding mothers, infants and children and for nausea assocated with migraines.
2. On January 26, 2009 the FDA issued an alert warning against chronic use of metoclopramide containing drugs and requiring a "black boxed" warning. Reglan side effects tardive dyskinesia and similar drug induced movement disorders are characterized by rarely reversible symptoms that include random movements in the tongue, lips or jaw as well as facial grimacing, movements of arms, legs, fingers and toes along with swaying movements of the trunk or hip.
3. Class-action lawsuits are underway in the United States seeking damages from patients who have suffered Reglan side effects after taking products containing the drug metoclopramide, including individuals who have developed Tardive Dyskinesia .

1. The antidepressant Norpramin (desipramine hydrochloride tablets USP) has been associated with sudden, fatal heart attacks in patients with irregular heartbeats. This has prompted the drug maker to modify the "Warnings" and "Overdosage" sections of the Norpramin prescribing information in the United States.
2. The new Norpramin safety information in the "Warnings" section states that extreme caution should be used when this drug is given to patients who have a family history of sudden death, cardiac dysrhythmias, and cardiac conduction disturbances. The section also notes that seizures may precede cardiac dysrhythmias and death in some patients.
3. Taking too much of the drug has resulted in a higher death rate “compared to overdoses of other tricyclic antidepressants." Sanofi-Aventis also changed instructions to doctors in the event of an overdose of Norpramin.
The current safety information for Norpramin already warns of a risk of increased suicidal thoughts in some patients. In addition, other potential cardiac side effects, including hypertension, heart blocks, tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation and sudden death, were already listed on the Norpramin label.
For Canadian Parents:
Today the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health finally took time from her swine flu file to unveil the youth component of Canada's National Anti-Drug Strategy, which not only targets lies at parents and young people, but ignores what the Canadian Medical Journal reports currently as an OxiContin epidemic. Instead, our state remains one of the only developed countries to continue to escalate a depraved war on hemp by perverting the known benefits and other truths in (dis)respect of hemp.
In a press release today, the people's ministers failed to warn Canadians of the outrageous findings released last week and published in the Canadian Medical Journal.
Please click below to watch this important OxyContin Death Risk Feature Report:
December 7, 2009 - Insidermedicine.ca
The Ministers specifically and conveniently failed to warn Canadians that this Ontario Oxy study found:
· +850% increase in known OxyContin prescriptions in Ontario
· 300-400+ known deaths / year in Ontario attributed to 'accidental' overdose alone (+500%)
· OxyContin now kills more than H1N1 / HIV-AIDS / West Nile / Heroin combined each year
While the epidemic numbers of known deaths from 'accidental' OxyContin overdoses continues to be altogether omitted from any PR release or media campaign of this government, some doctors in Canada continue to freely over-prescribe OxyContin and other addictive opiate and meth narcotics to Canadians and their children. In fact, not even public media (CBC) has published any truths found in the study, which has appeared instead, around the world, quoted in newspapers, television broadcasts, and on websites and blogs, fueling world-wide shock and pubic outcry over increasingly apparent big pharma narco-traficking.
Instead, the state's campaign of convenient lies, which includes a website and TV ad decrying hemp without mention of grave and clearly known OxyContin and Ritalin dangers, will do nothing more than promote bogus fads that have been manufactured by big pharma and fed to the masses like the pills such as Ritalin and OxyCotin, and chemicals such as aspartame, and dioxane which have now enslaved and sickened so many thousands. We find these acts to be depraved. In fact, the corruption, we argue is clear, and action is necessary.
While the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety asserts that "Our Government is committed to preventing crime and building stronger communities. That is why we introduced a Strategy to combat the production and distribution of illegal drugs, and invested in treatment for those with serious drug addictions. The new initiative announced today will help youth make smart choices, and avoid negative influences.", It is abundantly clear that in fact, this government does not care to warn it's citizens of what everyone else now sees as an elephant in the room.
It is extremely troubling that the ministers neither mention the fact that $650 million in fines was sufficient for the makers of OxiContin to plead guilty to federal crimes and escape jail in the United States for their roles in orchestrating this epidemic, nor do they offer any action or strategy to tackle this opiate nightmare in Canada. Even more worrisome is the fact that not even the justice minister appears to care about this. Instead, the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada salutes the lies in favor of big pharma, "I applaud this important initiative to reach our youth and help them stay drug free," he states.
So it seems that internet banners on websites popular with teens, and operated by our government's cohorts have been purchased to promote the lies that hemp is illegal, and has "no known" medicinal or therapeutic use in Canada or anywhere else, while failing to breath a word about the METH and opiate 'narco-nightmare' thousands are living. Today, more than ever, a deliberate haze of uncertainty and marred science surrounds many issues facing Canadians--and their government. Given that the state does not appear to want to level with Canadians by telling them the brutal truth about their petrochemical / defence / big pharma cohorts, and the mass misery infliceted by them on citizens around the world, and most especially in Canada, we have developed this site as a source of verified information and truth about real dangers facing and allflicting our fellow citizens not at the hands of 'a friendly stranger', but rather at the hands of a 'friendly pharma cohort'.

Ingersoll, Ontario CANADA
Canadians Stand Up to Government “lies” By Countering New Anti-Drug Website With Their Own Giving Canadians a Clear Choice and Access to an Inconvenient Truth
A group of Canadians led by Jason Bowman (http://thymeforhemp.viviti.com) has launched a new website only hours after Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq unveiled the youth component of Canada's National Anti-Drug Strategy, yesterday. Upset with what Bowman calls a depraved drug strategy, he says “These ministers are some of the last people in the modern world who still maintain that hemp is illegal and has no known theraputic medicinal purpose in Canada or anywhere else in the world. This is a bald lie.”
Http://not4me.tk is a spin-off of Health Canada’s http://not4me.ca website, and contains information for parents and children which is not contained on the government’s official site. The site includes a list of “6 of the most dangerous and addictive drugs”, “6 dangerous drugs”, and “6 toxic chemicals”. The site aims to educate young people and parents on the dangers of petrochemicals and drugs and encourages a natural health approach with what the creators call common sense in accordance with natural law.
"Youth between the ages of 13 and 15 in Canada are tired of being lied to by teachers, parents, big phama, and governments who support a clearly nefarious agenda. They know that hemp has been used medicinally for thousands of years because it cures and prevents dieseses including cancer; thanks largely to the internet, the government’s lies on this website are finally alling on deaf ears. People now know that despite billions in fines and settlements, dangerous American narcotics are still 'legally' manufactured and distributed to millions of people each month, while our Ministers are silent and turn a blind eye,” says Bowman.
He points to not4me.tk a source of inconvient truths that the goverment and media know about, yet refuse to acknowledge. "You can look at our website and see within two minutes that the scheme is the real problem, and that it is corrupt The consequences of psychotic big pharma corporations in our society are abundantly evident. Human misery and suffering has deteriorated to depths that are unspeakable. The near souless faces on our website are a testiment to the Canadian streets, of today - not a 60's culture or government puzzle game. I hope our Ministers look deep into these faces and do some soul-searching--but I am not holding my breath."
Bowman and his editors support their data with videos, photos, studies and court documents which have been made public - all are linked to the site. “Ritalin is clearly one of the most highly abused, addictive and dangerous meth drugs around. The withdrawal can be extreme. Severe mental health issues and suicides have been documented – and the court cases are mounting. What kind of doctor would put a brilliant kid, or any child (hyper or high-strung) on meth? Again, it’s depraved. I don't blame parents who don't know--but our officials and their big pharma cohorts are very well aware of how to make big money--who doesn't perform better using a stimulant? Parents never asked their doctors to 'show me the test results' when they or their child was diagnosed with a mystry illness, instead they took the advice of big pharma on an opinon, without a test, and therefor without a valid diagnosis -- and so many paid dearly.”
Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety, however supports the official website and continue to ignore Canada's most pressing public safetly issue, asserting: “The new initiative announced today will help youth make smart choices, and avoid negative influences."
The Attorney General, Rob Nicholson agrees, “I applaud this important initiative to reach our youth and help them stay drug free," he says.
Bowman and his editors disagree, “The Canadian Journal of Medicine published a study done in Ontario last week which points to the many health risks and social consequences arising from prescription drug abuse. Addicts lack the power to make their own decisions, and doctors just keep prescribing the same big pharma drugs for years--they don't even want to talk about natural alternatives. To make it worse, many of them, and the government, turn a blind eye to rampant narco abuse and focus, instead, on healing plants such as hemp a the problem. As increasing numbers of people wake up and get back to using more hemp, and less dangerous chemicals and drugs such as Ritalin and Oxycontin, the only losers we see are big pharma. People are healthier, happier and live a quality of life you can’t have with chemicals.”
"By concealing both the prescription opiate and stimulant abuse epidemics in our schools from the public health website, and without warnings of the known Ritalin gateway potental, and no data showing parents why giving their children addictive stimulants such as Ritalin tremendously increases that child's likelihood of abusing stronger stimulants such as cocaine and methamphatime in the future, exactly how the Minister envisions this scheme can help anyone to make smart choices remains uncertain. In fact it appears plain and obvious to me that these depraved Ministers see more benefit for some reason, in teaching hemp prohibition then gateway and narcotic addiction realities to our children. If this is because big pharma is pulling strings, handcuffs are in order; if its due to utter incompetence and ignorance, then resignations may suffice. For this to continue one more day is even more wrong. It's why I've let the oppostion MPs know about these issues. At least I can look at those souls on our site and know that I tried to tell their story."
User comments on the CBC website story indicate that almost nobody who uses the internet appears to have much faith in the success of the government site, and for now at least, http://www.not4me.tk appears to be winning in the court of public opinion.

THE CYCLE EXPLAINED
Stimulants increase heart and respiratory rates, elevate blood pressure, dilate the pupils, and decrease appetite. Users can experience sweating, headaches, blurred vision, paranoia, dizziness, sleeplessness, and anxiety. Extremely high doses cause rapid and irregular heartbeats, tremors, loss of coordination, and physical collapse. Stimulants can cause a sudden increase in blood pressure (resulting in stroke), high fever, or heart failure. In addition to physical effects, users may be restless and moody. Individuals using large amounts of stimulants over time can develop hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. Injecting stimulants such as Ritalin creates a sudden increase in blood pressure, which can cause a stroke, high fever, heart failure and death. Long-term Ritalin injection users suffer deformities caused from tissue damage.
Stimulants are addictive, and regular users often suffer devastating withdrawal symptoms.
Ritalin, the most frequently prescribed stimulant drug for Attention Deficit Disorder, has been the focus of much controversy, and is the subject of increasing numbers of court actions around the world. This controversy includes harmful Ritalin effects, Ritalin diversion and abuse (snorting / injecting Ritalin), Ritalin addiction and other Ritalin side effects. Suggestions that Ritalin has become the most prevalent gateway to methamphetamine and cocaine/crack use in recent years are supported in data in the United States.
Since Attention Deficit Disorder hysteria hit the mainstream in the 1980s, prescriptions for Ritalin have skyrocketed. So too have reports of children snorting Ritalin, Ritalin abuse and harmful Ritalin effects. Since 1991, prescriptions stimulant drugs to treat Attention Deficit Disorder have quintupled. Canadian research indicates that prescription rates for methylphenidate for children and youth in British Columbia increased more rapidly than in the US.
In 2009, about six million children - roughly one child out of every eight - will take Ritalin or other forms of ADHD medications in the United States as perscribed by their doctors - how many millions more will abuse these drugs is anyone's guess.
A psychiatrist in Denver, Colorado, Dodson ascribes ADHD mostly to biological causes. He is paid by Shire Richwood, the makers of Adderall, to educate other physicians about the drug's efficacy.
PBS - FRONTLINE interviewed Dodson on October 17, 2000.
Q / Would you object to the statement that we're re-engineering the personalities and behaviors of a percentage of our children in order to make them function better in our society?
A / You present that as if it's a bad thing.
Q / Some people would say we should be leaving them alone--that we should be loving them and supporting them--but that to give them medications that alter their brains is dangerous; that we're playing God; that we don't know what we're doing. We don't know the cause of the disease, and we don't know the effects and how the drugs work.
A / We don't know how the drugs do work, but we do know that they're safe. Amphetamine was invented over 100 years ago. We have people who have taken amphetamine every day of their lives--usually for narcolepsy, but also for ADHD--for 60 years. We've had people who have taken Ritalin every day of their lives for 32 years with no adverse affects, and with lots of benefit.
. . . For people who say, "Let's leave this well enough alone," or, "Let's be more cautious," without defining what "more cautious" would mean, I would ask those people to prepare themselves for that day 15 or 20 years from now when their child comes to them and says the following, "Now, let me get this straight. You saw that I was struggling. You saw that I was failing in school. You saw that I couldn't fall asleep at night. You saw that I was having trouble with my interpersonal relationships. You knew that it was ADHD. You knew that it had a good safe treatment. And you didn't even let me try? Explain that to me."
Those folks had better start working on their answer right now, because they're going to need 15 or 20 years to come up with a compelling answer for their child who asks them that question. "You saw me struggling and you did nothing?" That's a good question. And to me, it's a far more compelling one than saying, "We don't have perfect answers, therefore, let's do nothing." . . .
So here's the skinny...
When neither the children prescribed Ritalin, nor their parents have listened to a Psychologist / Psychiatrist talk to them about their child's mental state and wellness, and merely accept a family doctor's prescription for Ritalin as a solution to their problem, they place their lives into the unclean hands of their practitioner at their peril.
Anyone who places faith in a chemical beyond natural laws does the same thing.

Sounds
scary, huh? Like the author says, it’s meant to. Only there are three
serious problems with the mainstream media’s alarmist coverage which
makes them criminals if done with intent, i.e. collusion.
1) No adolescents — or for that matter, any human beings whatsoever — actually participated in the study.
2) No actual cannabis was consumed in the study.
3) No permanent brain damage was reported in the study.
The
actual cited sources of the headlines clearly tell this story. The
"other" side of the story will be told when we find out how much public
discussion and public opinion has been distorted willfully by the
whores, i.e. how many comments were actually complained of / deleted /
moderated-manipulated and to which ends.
Our group has conducted
surveys and the results have been startling. We'll share a full report
shortly, but suffice it to say that quantitative numbers (primary
research) indicates that CBC and others have colluded unlawfully. If
you wish to participate in samples in your area, please contact us.
